A UTXO based system like Bitcoin is more of a cash model where you can hand someone the inputs that your next transaction needs to validate and transform into the next input. This is a more multi-threaded and highly scalable model.
Bitcoin is less application-like and more a decentralized ledger. The transactions and thus data contained on the ledger can be used to create provable steps into how something was solved or computed. This is the foundation of how a blockchain game can scale to Billions of users. Think of storing your move as a transaction, but what that transaction means inside of the game is up to the game to compute. If the game decides to cheat and compute it differently you can have transparency and call them out. This method is way more computationally efficient and will scale where account-based systems will not.
